The Doedicurus is this Month’s TAME of the month!

Each month, we are going to have a new tame selected and the reason here is because we are encouarging people to learn about dinosaurs.

For this months tame, we are going to start off by choosing the Doedicurus. The doedicurus is one of my personal favorite tames on Ark Survival Ascended for many reasons. Now, let’s take this month to learn about the Doedicurus. 🙂

A Prehistoric Mammal!

The Doedicurus was a prehistoric mammal that lived during the Pleistocene epoch, andd that was around 2 million to 10,000 years ago. It was a large glyptodont, which is a group of extinct armored mammals related to the modern cute little armadillos.

One of the Largest Gyptodonts!

Doedicurus was one of the largest glyptodonts, reaching sizes of up to 4 meters (13 feet) in length and weighing over a ton. Can you imagine that? Its most distinctive feature was its massive, domed carapace composed of thick bony plates. This shell served as protection against predators.

The Cute Tail!

It had a cute little club-like tail, like the one you see on Ark Survival Ascended, which it likely used for defense against predators or in intraspecific combat. There is fossil evidence, of corse and thet evidence suggests that Doedicurus primarily fed on vegetation (like mejo berries, lol), and its heavy armor likely made it less vulnerable to predators.

Doedicurus is a fascinating example of the diverse range of creatures that once roamed the Earth, and studying its fossils helps scientists understand more about the ancient ecosystems it inhabited.

10 Facts on the Doedicurus

Certainly! Here are 10 fascinating facts about the Doedicurus:

  1. Giant Size: Doedicurus was one of the largest glyptodonts, reaching lengths of up to 4 meters (13 feet) from head to tail. Wow, so this creature was pretty big, weren’t they? Could you imagine this little guy running around in your yard?
  2. Heavy Armor: It possessed a massive, domed carapace made up of thick bony plates, providing protection against predators. Heavy armor was definitely needed. 🙂
  3. Clubbed Tail: One of its most distinctive features was its club-like tail, which could measure up to 1 meter (3 feet) in length and weigh around 100 kilograms (220 pounds).
  4. Herbivorous Diet: Despite its formidable appearance, Doedicurus was primarily a herbivore, feeding on vegetation such as grasses, shrubs, and leaves.
  5. Extinct Relatives: Doedicurus belonged to the group of extinct mammals known as glyptodonts, which were closely related to modern armadillos.
  6. Habitat: It likely inhabited open grasslands and savannas in South America during the Pleistocene epoch. On Ark, you can find them all over the place, but I like to look around lakes for them.
  7. Predator Defense: The thick bony plates of its carapace provided excellent protection against predators, including large carnivores like saber-toothed cats and dire wolves.
  8. Extinction: Like many other megafauna of the Pleistocene, Doedicurus went extinct around 10,000 years ago, likely due to a combination of climate change and human hunting.
  9. Fossil Discoveries: Fossils of Doedicurus have been found primarily in South America, especially in countries like Argentina and Brazil.
  10. Scientific Study: Studying Doedicurus fossils provides valuable insights into the ancient ecosystems of South America and the interactions between large herbivores and predators during the Pleistocene epoch.
